Nursing Education Advisory Committee
The registered nurse is a licensed health care professional able to work in hospitals, clinics, acute care, physicians' offices, emergency centers, long-term care facilities, and home health care agencies.
Registered nurses work with patients from birth through old age in a variety of health care settings, including medical/surgical, obstetrics, mental health, long-term care, and in the community. They design care plans, perform patient assessments, administer medications, give injections, serve as advocates for patients, and refer patients to the proper resources.
Critical-thinking and decision-making ability, as well as a life-long commitment to
learning, are important assets in this demanding but rewarding profession.
