The Village is a Substance Free, Quiet, LGBTQ+ friendly Student only housing community near Peninsula Park Community Center (and pool) in Portland, that aspires to create a space where personal responsibility blends with responsibility toward others and community. Students and supporters who engage with The Village are committed to developing and supporting healthy living and personal skills to build a stronger world community with an emphasis on life skill building, providing an alternative to normalized substance use, and reducing bias against marginalized communities. We are a remodeled 5 bedroom 2 bathroom two story Old Portland style home. We have furnished 3 bedrooms upstairs and 2 on the main floor for student only living. Each room is different and all are furnished with beds, storage, and their own style (one has airplane seats for r&r!). There is ample space to commune with housemates in the shared dining, living, and kitchen spaces. New kitchen appliances and cabinets with tile and wood flooring make this an upscale living situation. Monthly room rates are between $500 per month plus utilities to $850 per month plus utilities. There is a garden with food planted but upkeep and harvesting are the responsibility of the students. There is also a shared front yard space and large front deck, as well as a back pantry with a bike that can be shared with all the students (as long as the bike is kept up). The Owner works to find basic resources and supplies when able for students and will periodically provide resume and career support workshops on site for the resident students. Resident students must be 18 years of age and no more than 24 years of age, as we are focused on first time college students. A Survey for housemate compatability, Application, background, and credit check are required. Background and credit check fees must be paid by applicants after the survey is completed as we work to further the best living dynamic we can. Students must be 18-24 years old and have co-signers, guardians, or parents, or a subsidizing organization that will support the monthly fees in the event students cannot. For my own emotional health, having a roommate who also prioritizes keeping shared spaces tidy is important to me, since clutter and mess stress me out. I would like to share household chores, but I also understand that some weeks get so busy that the last thing on the to-do list is vacuuming or cleaning counters. In addition, I cherish open, healthy communication with a roommate. I hope to provide a space where any concerns or questions can be received warmly, and we can communicate like mature individuals. I would love for my roommate to become a friend, so we can have movie nights and enjoy time off at home together.
