What happens when I drop or withdraw from a class?

There are many things to consider prior to moving forward with dropping or withdrawing from a class. Officially withdrawing from a class after the 10th business day of the term will lead to a “W” on your transcript. A class dropped prior to the end of the 10th business day will not be transcribed or become part of your permanent record. Please refer to the following list of considerations as you determine your best course of action. Make note of the academic and financial impacts of each choice, and feel free to reach out to the department contacts listed directly below each category if you would like further clarification.

Academic Impact:
Impact on degree plan – Will dropping or withdrawing from this class delay your degree plan? Check with your Academic Advisor in the Advising Office.

Transcript impact – How will this class show up on your transcript after you drop? When you withdraw from a class, there will be a recorded “W” on your official transcript

Running Start – High School completion plans may be impacted by dropping or withdrawing from a class. Please connect with both your High School Counselor and your Clark College Academic Advisor to discuss adjustments to graduation plans.

International Students - Dropping or withdrawing a class can impact your full-time study and your F-1 immigration status.  Contact International Programs before any changes to enrollment.

Financial Impact:

Tuition & course fee charges – Are you eligible for a partial tuition refund? Check the Important Dates, Deadlines, and Enrollment Calendar or contact the Enrollment Services for further assistance.

Financial aid eligibility if enrollment status is less than full-time (fewer than 12 credits) - Could reduce the amount of grant and/or scholarship aid you qualify for and may require you to repay some or all the aid you’ve received so far for the term.  Review Maintaining Eligibility and check with the Financial Aid Office if you have questions.

Financial aid eligibility if enrollment status is less than half-time (fewer than 6 credits) – Could negatively impact federal student loan eligibility and require you to start repayment of any existing student loans.  For more information, look at Financial Aid Office FAQs.

Withdrawing from ANY courses may have an impact on your Satisfactory Academic Progress, meaning you may lose eligibility for federal, state and/or institutional aid in future terms. Check with the Financial Aid Office if you have questions.

Departmental & Outside Scholarships or Private Loans – Many scholarships and private student loans have minimum enrollment requirements. Check with the awarding department, organization, or lender before dropping or withdrawing from courses.

Employer tuition assistance – if your, your spouse’s, or your parent’s employer provides tuition assistance, changing your enrollment status could impact your eligibility. Contact the employer’s benefits department for details.

Other Considerations
Student employment eligibility ends if you drop below 6 units.

  • Student ID Cards – Check with Bookstore for details.
  • Bus Pass – Check with Bookstore for details.
  • Dependent student health or car insurance – If you are on your parent’s health insurance policy as a dependent, there may be a negative impact for falling below full-time enrollment. Check with your insurance provider for details.
  • Student Athletes – Reach out to the Athletic Director to confirm your athletic eligibility will not be impacted, prior to dropping.
  • Need additional Support? Contact Student CARE at clarkCARES@clark.edu for help and resources.

How can I get my class changed to Pass/No Pass or Audit?

First, review the Credit Options for Pass/No Pass and Audit.

To request your class to be changed to Pass/No Pass or Audit, you must:

  1. Contact the instructor of the class with your request.
  2. Ask the instructor to email their approval with the Class Number to enroll@clark.edu.
  3. Submit the completed Registration Form along with photo ID and email to enroll@clark.edu
  4. Enrollment Services will then add you to the class as soon as we've received the instructor's permission.

Can someone else register for me?

Students must register themselves. You may register online from your computer or your smartphone by using the ctcLink Mobile App (choose Android or Apple). You may also register online in a computer lab (by appointment) on campus.

If you need assistance in how to register, there are step-by-step tutorials for navigating ctcLink, scroll down to Enroll in Classes.  You can contact the Enrollment Services office through Zoom, Monday through Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., or by email at enroll@clark.edu.

What should I do if I can't attend the first day of class?

If you are unable to attend the first day of your class(es) due to an emergency, contact your instructor to discuss your options.  If you are unable to reach your instructor, contact the class department, or the Office of Instruction at 360-992-2291.

Will my instructors drop me from classes if I don't attend?

Maybe.  If you miss one or more sessions in the first week of the term, you may be dropped from the class.  However, not all instructors drop students for non-attendance.

If you miss any classes in the first week of the term, you are responsible for verifying your enrollment status with your instructor(s).

If you are dropped from a class by your instructor for non-attendance in the first week of the term, you will receive a full refund of tuition/fees, if paid.

Please note that it is your responsibility to drop yourself from any class that you do not plan to attend.  If you don't drop the class, the college may still charge tuition/fees to you or any agency (including Financial Aid) for those classes, whether or not you attended.

May I change my schedule online after I register for classes?

Yes, you may make changes online through MyClark@ctcLink:

  • add classes online (with instructor permission beginning 3rd day of the term), through the end of the eighth week of the term (the date varies in summer term).
  • drop/withdraw classes online through the end of the eighth week of the term (the date varies in summer term)

These changes will be reflected in your schedule immediately.  Be sure to check your schedule in MyClark@ctcLink after making any changes.

How will I know when to pay my tuition/fees?  Will the college bill me?

No, the college does not mail or email you a bill each term. Students can view their tuition and fee balance, and sign up for the STEPP payment plan, through MyClark@ctcLink

Visit the Tuition and Fees Tuition Due Date page to view the tuition due dates. Should you have any questions, contact Enrollment Services.

Clark College strives to make college affordable and attainable. Contact our Financial Aid team for assistance with funding options.

What if I don't pay tuition on time?  Will my classes be dropped?

Students with a tuition balance must either pay their balance, sign up for the STEPP payment plan, or apply for financial aid (FAFSA) or a third-party funding source that will pay their tuition, in order to stay enrolled.

  • If a funding source is in place, a service indicator will be viewable through MyClark@ctcLink.
  • If a service indicator is not in place and a balance is still owed after the tuition deadline, students will be dropped for non-payment.

Students may view their service indicators on their account, track balances owed, as well as the status of financial aid and payments made to their account in ctcLink.

If you have a funding source in place, and do not see a service indicator, contact the appropriate office (Financial Aid, including scholarships, loans, grants, sponsored funding programs, Worksource Education Services), to ensure that you are not dropped for non-payment.

Be sure to check the Tuition and Fees Tuition Due Date page every term. Should you have any questions, contact Enrollment Services.

How do I view my financial aid information or access the Financial Aid Portal?

  • You can view your required Financial Aid forms and documents in your Tasks tile on your Student Homepage in MyClark@ctcLink.
  • You may also view other financial aid information in your Financial Aid tile on the Student Homepage.

If you have additional questions, please check the Financial Aid FAQ page, or contact the Financial Aid office through Zoom, or by email to finaidmail@clark.edu.
