NW Regional Equity Conference
March 3-5, 2027
Art as Legacy & Liberation | Art as Healing
Art has long been a force for resistance, healing, storytelling, and transformation across the Black and African Diaspora, Indigenous communities, and cultures around the world. For NWREC 2027, we recognize that equity work is not only rooted in policy and practice, but also in creativity, culture, memory, and connection.
This year’s theme invites participants to explore how creative expression can deepen our understanding of justice, strengthen communities, and help us imagine more equitable futures. Through storytelling, visual art, performance, music, writing, and other forms of embodied learning, NWREC 2027 will create space for reflection, dialogue, and collective engagement that extends beyond traditional conference experiences.
The theme also honors the ways communities have used art to preserve identity, carry forward cultural knowledge, challenge systems of oppression, and support individual and collective healing across generations. Rather than centering a single narrative, it opens space for a broad range of lived experiences, perspectives, and cultural traditions to be seen, heard, and celebrated.
At NWREC 2027, we invite participants to engage with creative expression as a powerful tool for:
- Challenging systems of oppression
- Preserving identity and culture
- Supporting individual and collective healing
- Building connection and community
- Imagining new possibilities for equity and justice

Why Attend NWREC?
The Northwest Regional Equity Conference (NWREC) convenes educators, leaders, students, organizers, nonprofit professionals, and equity advocates from across the region and beyond to center justice, foster belonging, and take meaningful action toward equity in education, policy, and community life.
As we continue to grow, NWREC is expanding beyond the annual conference to offer year-round programming that deepens engagement and learning across our region. These new opportunities — including professional development workshops, featured speakers, community conversations, and special events — extend NWREC’s mission to build stronger, more connected, and equity-centered communities throughout the year.
- Connect with changemakers working across education, government, nonprofit, and community spaces.
- Learn from dynamic keynotes, interactive sessions, and conversations rooted in equity and lived experience.
- Grow your capacity to lead transformative work with actionable tools, new frameworks, and deeper relationships.
Whether you’re just beginning your equity journey or deeply rooted in this work, NWREC offers space for reflection, renewal, and resistance — and for building the future we envision together.
Be part of a movement where equity is more than a value — it’s a collective commitment.
