Tutoring Tip of the Week #8
This week holds Veteran’s Day on Tuesday, November 11th. This is a great time to remind you that Tutoring Services is closed on any day that classes are not held, and as such we will not be open on Tuesday the 11th in honor of Veteran’s Day.
This is also a great reminder to let you know that there is specific tutoring support on campus for our Veterans and families of Veterans located in the Veteran’s Center of Excellence in the Penguin Union Building, room 015. There are many resources available for our Veteran students and their families in this center and some amazing tutoring support for math, English/writing, nursing, science, anatomy & physiology, and medical terminology. Veterans Tutoring schedules can be found here.
We hope our Veteran students and dependents are taking advantage of these resources and Tutoring Services sends a heartfelt THANK YOU to all our service members this Veteran’s Day.
New Art Exhibition: tell ___ 'hi' from me, November 13th - February 13th at Archer Gallery
Our new exhibit at Archer Gallery, tell ___ ‘hi’ from me, showcases the work of 27 self-taught, neurodivergent artists who live and create in Oregon and are members of the Portland-based Progressive Art Studio, North Pole Studio. This diverse collection of contemporary 2D and 3D works reflects honest creative expression and raw innovation. It honors the vitality of lifelong creative practice and re-imagines conventions in art-making. It invites the viewer to deepen their understanding of the Progressive Art Studio movement and artists working within it. tell ___ ‘hi’ speaks to presence, persistence, and belonging: ‘we’ve always been here, won’t you get to know us?’ … ‘it’s time you get to know us’.
Opening Reception and Artist Talk: tell ___ 'hi' from me, November 13th, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Archer Gallery
North Pole Studio supports careers in the arts, and exists to increase opportunities for artists with autism and intellectual/developmental disabilities to thrive as active members of the arts community. They foster self-determination and facilitate meaningful connections through total engagement in the arts.
They believe that a collective understanding of diverse human experiences is foundational to a vibrant and whole community. Through studio practice and community engagement, they ensure that artists with autism and I/DD live as self-determined, visible, and valuable contributors to the local and national contemporary art community.
This talk is in conjunction with the opening of “tell ___ ‘hi’ from me: the work of self-taught, neurodivergent artists who live and create in Oregon.” and participating artists will walk us through the show and talk about their work.
