Tutoring Tip of the Week #7

What can a tutor do for me? Why would I go to tutoring? I don’t need tutoring. Common questions and common thoughts. What if you learned that tutoring really IS for you? Tutoring is for everyone! Reframing tutoring as a RESOURCE not REMEDIATION is critical in a college setting. Proactive and engaged students typically view tutoring as a necessary resource for staying on track and producing their best work in college. Making sure to have set times to visit each week, utilizing the space and expertise to help you work through assignments, running through final projects, test prep, and papers with tutors helps make sure you are producing your best work and putting in optimal effort. WA State Council Fall Transfer Fair, November 12th, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in Gaiser Student Center

The Washington Council Fall Transfer Fair is sponsored by The Washington Council for High School-College Relations. This fair will feature local universities, Clark College's bachelor degree programs, and resources such as our career and advising staff. Stop by our Advising table during National Transfer Student Week to learn more about questions to ask transfer schools and how to prepare for the transfer fair.

Volunteer Research Opportunity for Pre-Healthcare College Students at OHSU

Oregon Health Sciences University PRISM Clinical Research Team is offering volunteer opportunities for pre-med/pre-healthcare college students (18+ years old) interested in gaining research experience before applying to medical, nursing, pharmacy, or physician associate school or entering a healthcare field.

OHSU PRISM Clinical Research Volunteer (Pulmonary/Critical Care/Sleep): Join Dr. Akram Khan’s research team and contribute to studies that improve care for patients with lung disorders. You’ll learn chart screening, consent workflows, and protocol operations on IRB-approved studies—excellent preparation for healthcare, psychology, or public-health careers. Family Movie Night: Out of This World with Elio, November 18th, 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in Gaiser Student Center

What is Mechatronics? Mechatronics Technology is a growing technical field that deals with the integration of mechanical, fluid power, and electronic components managed by a control system.

Scammers may pose as Clark College or state employees to steal your personal information. Stay vigilant and protect yourself from fraud. Stay safe—think before you share!

Need to Use a Microwave?

Students need to eat. Sometimes you need a microwave. Here are some locations of microwaves throughout the main campus: Basic Needs Hub (GHL 216), Frost Arts Center, Clark Bookstore, Hanna Hall Study Lounge, Culinary, Student Life, JSH near Clark Café, BHL near vending machines, SHL lower level near vending machines, NERD Cave (SBG 102). Please be mindful that other students use this machine, too. Please clean up after you make a mess. Be a resourceful and responsible student.

Career & Personality Assessment Opportunities

Learn more about your unique personality type preferences and discover career possibilities. The Strong Interest Inventory career assessment, and the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator are assessments available to currently enrolled students. They include a detailed report that helps to identify interest areas, career pathways, and personality style strengths & preferences. These assessments are tools to help individuals learn about career options, understand themselves better and relationships with others. Sign-up to complete the assessment(s) and pick an interpretation session date. During the session, you'll receive your report(s) and learn strategies to support with your career or personal development.

Free Workshops at WorkSource

Did you know that your local WorkSource offers a variety of free workshops (virtual and in person) to support jobseekers and career changers? Some example workshops offered are: Creating the Right Resume, Coping with Stress During the Job Search, Resolving Conflict at Work, How to Get Past the Applicant Tracking System, and more! Registration is required for virtual workshops.

Student Resources

You May be Eligible for Support through Workforce Education Services

Workforce Education Services (WES) administers a variety of programs that are designed to support students who are seeking certificates and degree programs with an employment goal, as well as students enrolled in Transitional Studies programs. Eligibility, including eligible degree types, vary and are dependent on individual program requirements. Students may receive assistance with tuition, fees and books as well as help in accessing other supports to include public benefits by completing the Workforce Education Services Application.

You may be eligible for support through Workforce Education Services if you meet one of the following criteria:

  • Considered low income
  • Receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families)
  • Receiving federal food benefits (SNAP/EBT)
  • Receiving unemployment benefits
  • Exhausted unemployment benefits within the past 48 months
  • A military veteran discharged within the past 48 months or have an upcoming separation date
  • A displaced Homemaker (loss of primary income due to becoming widowed, separated, divorced, or lost income due to loss of a spouse's job or incarceration of a spouse) within the past 48 months
  • A Former Foster Youth and under 22 years old
  • An Unaccompanied Homeless Youth and under 22 years old

Disability Access Center Accommodations

Clark College Dental Hygiene Accepting New Patients

We are looking for new patients to be treated at Clark College by dental hygiene students and the onsite dentist. We offer various services such as dental cleanings, dental exams, radiographs, whitening, fluoride treatments, fillings, nutrition counseling and more. These services are available Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. Times vary depending on the quarter and appointment. Located in the Firstenburg Dental Hygiene Education and Care Center. Fall Term DSHS Pop-Ups in the Basic Needs Hub

Come into the Basic Needs Hub (GHL 216) to meet with DSHS! You can complete your SNAP application and interview, drop off paperwork, make changes to an existing case, and more! All dates below from 10am - 2pm.
