Tutoring Tip of the Week #6

You’ve made it to the halfway point! Can you believe how fast a quarter goes? We hope you have had an opportunity to swing into a Tutoring Center near you to meet our staff and get familiar with our services.

If you have not yet, this week is a GREAT week to do so as you can pick up some free candy AND get a bookstore gift card just for doing it! That’s right, ASCC Scavenger Hunt is this week. This event is designed to help students become acquainted with important campus resources. Participants are given a passport to visit various service locations. Upon completion, they can turn in the passport to ASCC in PUB 160 to receive a prize. Specifically, students can visit any tutoring location between October 27th and 30th to pick up a passport and a treat. We look forward to seeing you soon! Post-Test Analysis Workshop: Did that exam come back with a lower score than expected? Visit this workshop to get the tools and support to analyze that most recent exam to determine what areas to strengthen and what areas went well. Create a plan for preparing for future exams with better outcomes.

The Great Pumpkin Hunt, October 30th, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at The Bookstore

Holiday Costumes at Clark College Reminder

Here’s what to keep in mind when dressing up:
• Keep it respectful: Costumes that stereotype, mock, or appropriate any culture, race, religion, or identity are not appropriate for campus. Please also avoid costumes that resemble law enforcement, immigration officials, or similar authority figures, as these can cause confusion or distress on campus. These expectations align with the Code of Student Conduct and Nondiscrimination and Harassment Administrative policy, which support a respectful and inclusive environment for all members of our community.
• No weapons or weapon-like props: In alignment with Administrative Policy 527.020 (Weapons on Campus) and the Code of Student Conduct, do not bring weapons or items that resemble or sound like weapons (including toy or replica items) to campus.
• Masks and face coverings: For safety and identification reasons, please keep your face visible while indoors. Simple makeup or small accessories are fine, but full masks, helmets, or face-obscuring items are not.
• Stay safe and mobile: Costumes should not block hallways, create tripping hazards, or interfere with classroom or workplace activities, in accordance with Clark’s Environmental Health and Safety Guidelines
• Be considerate: Remember that not everyone celebrates Halloween, and some costumes can unintentionally make others uncomfortable.

Always verify the legitimacy of requests for personal information, even if they seem to come from Clark College. If you receive an email, text, or call asking for sensitive details:

  • Pause before responding.
  • Contact the Clark College Helpdesk at (360) 992-2425 or helpdesk@clark.edu to confirm the request.

Scammers may pose as Clark College or state employees to steal your personal information. Stay vigilant and protect yourself from fraud. Stay safe—think before you share!

Need to Use a Microwave?

Students need to eat. Sometimes you need a microwave. Here are some locations of microwaves throughout the main campus: Basic Needs Hub (GHL 216), Frost Arts Center, Clark Bookstore, Hanna Hall Study Lounge, Culinary, Student Life, JSH near Clark Café, BHL near vending machines, SHL lower level near vending machines, NERD Cave (SBG 102). Please be mindful that other students use this machine, too. Please clean up after you make a mess. Be a resourceful and responsible student.

Ready to get moving and boost your well-being this October? Join the Walktober Challenge and track your steps throughout the month! Whether you're walking to class, around campus, or in your neighborhood, every step counts and all movement counts.

Download your calendar on our webpage, track your movement all month long, and submit your completed calendar by **November 7** to Human Resources and **don’t forget to include your name and email/contact info** so we can celebrate your progress and enter you into prize drawings!

Career & Personality Assessment Opportunities

Learn more about your unique personality type preferences and discover career possibilities. The Strong Interest Inventory career assessment, and the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator are assessments available to currently enrolled students. They include a detailed report that helps to identify interest areas, career pathways, and personality style strengths & preferences. These assessments are tools to help individuals learn about career options, understand themselves better and relationships with others. Sign-up to complete the assessment(s) and pick an interpretation session date. During the session, you'll receive your report(s) and learn strategies to support with your career or personal development.

Free Workshops at WorkSource

Did you know that your local WorkSource offers a variety of free workshops (virtual and in person) to support jobseekers and career changers? Some example workshops offered are: Creating the Right Resume, Coping with Stress During the Job Search, Resolving Conflict at Work, How to Get Past the Applicant Tracking System, and more! Registration is required for virtual workshops.

Student Resources

You May be Eligible for Support through Workforce Education Services

Workforce Education Services (WES) administers a variety of programs that are designed to support students who are seeking certificates and degree programs with an employment goal, as well as students enrolled in Transitional Studies programs. Eligibility, including eligible degree types, vary and are dependent on individual program requirements. Students may receive assistance with tuition, fees and books as well as help in accessing other supports to include public benefits by completing the Workforce Education Services Application.

You may be eligible for support through Workforce Education Services if you meet one of the following criteria:

  • Considered low income
  • Receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families)
  • Receiving federal food benefits (SNAP/EBT)
  • Receiving unemployment benefits
  • Exhausted unemployment benefits within the past 48 months
  • A military veteran discharged within the past 48 months or have an upcoming separation date
  • A displaced Homemaker (loss of primary income due to becoming widowed, separated, divorced, or lost income due to loss of a spouse's job or incarceration of a spouse) within the past 48 months
  • A Former Foster Youth and under 22 years old
  • An Unaccompanied Homeless Youth and under 22 years old

Disability Access Center Accommodations

Are you a student who is new to Clark and has a disability? Clark's Disability Access Center (formerly Disability Support Services) supports students with a range of disabilities and health conditions, from depression to ADD/ADHD to Crohn's disease and more. Clark College Dental Hygiene Accepting New Patients

We are looking for new patients to be treated at Clark College by dental hygiene students and the onsite dentist. We offer various services such as dental cleanings, dental exams, radiographs, whitening, fluoride treatments, fillings, nutrition counseling and more. These services are available Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. Times vary depending on the quarter and appointment. Located in the Firstenburg Dental Hygiene Education and Care Center. Fall Term DSHS Pop-Ups in the Basic Needs Hub

Come into the Basic Needs Hub (GHL 216) to meet with DSHS! You can complete your SNAP application and interview, drop off paperwork, make changes to an existing case, and more! All dates below from 10am - 2pm.
