Master Promissory Note (MPN)
Direct Loan Borrowers Must Complete a Direct Loan MPN.
If you have not previously received a Direct Loan, you must complete a Direct Loan
Master Promissory Note (MPN).
The MPN is the legal document through which you promise to repay your Direct Loans
and any accrued interest and fees to the Department of Education. It also explains
the terms and conditions of your loans. A Direct Loan MPN is valid for up to ten years
from the date the MPN is received and at least one actual disbursement is made within
a year from the date the department of education receives the MPN. When you e-sign
your MPN sign with your full name (no nickname, first name initials or abbreviation’s).
To complete a Direct Loan MPN electronically, you must have a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID. The FSA ID is the same ID used to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
