Tutoring Tip of the Week #5

Well, here we go! Turning the corner right into midterms! Projects and papers are due, exams are coming, schedules are filling. Have you found your rhythm? Are you caught up on your assignments? Do you have a dedicated study time set aside to feel prepared for those exams? If you need any help with any of these areas, please come by a tutoring center near you. Many of our tutors are peer tutors. They are students just like you, and they know the trials of juggling all those classes and life responsibilities. Learn from them what has worked for them and try to identify what will work for you!

The Columbia Writers Series Welcomes Joe Sacco, February 5th, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in PUB 258 B-C

The Creative Writing and Art Departments warmly welcome Eisner Award–winning author and pioneering comics journalist Joe Sacco to Clark College as part of the Columbia Writers Series. Sacco is the author of Footnotes in Gaza—recipient of the Ridenhour Book Prize—as well as Paying the Land, Palestine, Journalism, Safe Area Goražde, and Safe Area Goražde, among other works. His reporting has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Guardian, and Harper’s Magazine. He lives in Portland, Oregon.

Artist Talk: Maya Vivas, February 4th, 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Zoom

Maya Vivas is a multidisciplinary artist working in a variety of mediums such as ceramic, performance, painting, social practice and installation. Maya has exhibited work, spoken on panels and hosted workshops throughout the United States including venues and institutions such as Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, Louisiana State University and Yale. Vivas is also co-founder of Ori Gallery. Whose mission is to redefine "the white cube" through amplifying the voices of Queer and Trans Artists of color, community organizing and mobilization through the arts.

Artist Talk: Dani Bowman, February 5th, 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Zoom

Dani Bowman founded her company, DaniMation Entertainment, at age 11. She has worked professionally in the animation industry since 14. Bowman has premiered 15 award-wining animated short films at San Diego Comic-Con each year for the past 10 years. Her shorts feature the voices of Joe Mantegna, Tom Kenny (Sponge Bob), June Foray, Debi Derryberry and Stella Ritter in addition to other voice actors on the autism spectrum. Knowing the special talents of people with autism, Dani employs others on the spectrum at DaniMation Entertainment as musicians, artists, and voice actors. Dani utilizes her six passions of Autism Advocacy, Public Speaking, Animation, Illustration, Fine and Visual Arts, and Teaching Animation to show young adults on the spectrum and with other disabilities that anything is possible and inspire them to leverage their unique ability. Dani's team of students won the Easter Seals Disability Film Challenge for "Best Editor" in 2021.

Dani graduated Woodbury University with a Bachelor's Degree of Fine Arts (BFA) in Animation, followed by Master's Degree of Business Administration (MBA) in Management and Leadership, also from Woodbury University.

Dani is currently on the cast of Netflix "Love on the Spectrum US".

New Art Exhibition: tell ___ 'hi' from me, November 13th - February 13th at Archer Gallery

Our new exhibit at Archer Gallery, tell ___ ‘hi’ from me, showcases the work of 27 self-taught, neurodivergent artists who live and create in Oregon and are members of the Portland-based Progressive Art Studio, North Pole Studio. This diverse collection of contemporary 2D and 3D works reflects honest creative expression and raw innovation. It honors the vitality of lifelong creative practice and re-imagines conventions in art-making. It invites the viewer to deepen their understanding of the Progressive Art Studio movement and artists working within it. tell ___ ‘hi’ speaks to presence, persistence, and belonging: ‘we’ve always been here, won’t you get to know us?’ … ‘it’s time you get to know us’.

Athletics

Discounted Fitness Center Passes

Currently enrolled students pay $10.00 / quarter to work out in the Clark College Fitness Center. Students take their photo ID to the Cashiers Office in Gaiser Hall to pay. Then, go to the Fitness Center in O'Connell Sports Complex (OSC). While supplies last.

Students who are currently enrolled in Physical Education, HPE 266 or HPE 258 (Fitness Wellness) can use the fitness center free for that quarter. Fitness Center hours and information.

Need to Use a Microwave?

Students need to eat. Sometimes you need a microwave. Here are some locations of microwaves throughout the main campus: Basic Needs Hub (GHL 216), Frost Arts Center, Clark Bookstore, Hanna Hall Study Lounge, Culinary, Student Life, JSH near Clark Café, BHL near vending machines, SHL lower level near vending machines, NERD Cave (SBG 102). Please be mindful that other students use this machine, too. Please clean up after you make a mess. Be a resourceful and responsible student.

The Strong Interest Inventory career assessment, and the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator are assessments available to currently enrolled students. They include a detailed report that helps to identify interest areas, career pathways, and personality style strengths & preferences. These assessments are tools to help individuals learn about career options, understand themselves better and relationships with others. Sign-up to complete the assessment(s) and pick an interpretation session date. During the session, you'll receive your report(s) and learn strategies to support with your career or personal development.

Did you know that your local WorkSource offers a variety of free workshops (virtual and in person) to support jobseekers and career changers? Some example workshops offered are: Creating the Right Resume, Coping with Stress During the Job Search, Resolving Conflict at Work, How to Get Past the Applicant Tracking System, and more! Registration is required for virtual workshops.

Community Foundation (CF) for Southwest Washington Scholarships

Join us for a Pop-Up Style Body Doubling Study Session and explore new parts of campus. Hosted by the Disability Access Center Peer Mentors, Body Doubling is a supportive study method where students work independently but as a collective, together in a shared space to boost focus, motivation and accountability.

Vancouver Rotary Scholarship

The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington offers many scholarships for local students. Scholarships are also available for high school students that are graduating in spring and intend to continue their education, and students that are currently pursuing education at a college, university, career or technical school. Eligibility and requirements vary based on the individual scholarship. Applications are typically open from December to April.

Washington State Opportunity Baccalaureate Scholarship

VANCOUVER ROTARY is a part of ROTARY INTERNATIONAL, a worldwide organization of business and professional people dedicated to service, fellowship, and the promotion of peace.

In order to be eligible, you must be currently attending a high school in Vancouver Public Schools District or La Center School District, Clark College, or WSU Vancouver. Only applicants planning to attend a college, university or vocational school in Washington or Oregon will be considered for a Rotary scholarship. Scholarship awards are designated for tuition and other education-related expenses. Students who received a Rotary scholarship last year may not apply. WWIN Star Scholarship

WWIN makes grants to determined women who are ready for transformational change and looking to build a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities for generations to come. Applications open: January 08, 2026 to April 16, 2026. Apply for the WWIN Star Scholarship here.
