In the Next Room, this June in the Decker Theater
In the Next Room or the vibrator play is a comedy about marriage, intimacy, and electricity. Set in the 1880s at the dawn of the age of electricity and based on the bizarre historical fact that doctors used vibrators to treat 'hysterical' women (and some men), the play centers on a doctor and his wife and how his new therapy affects their entire household. In a seemingly perfect, well-to-do Victorian home, proper gentleman and scientist Dr. Givings has innocently invented an extraordinary new device for treating "hysteria" in women (and occasionally men): the vibrator. Adjacent to the doctor's laboratory, his young and energetic wife tries to tend to their newborn daughter—and wonders exactly what is going on in the next room. When a new "hysterical" patient and her husband bring a wet nurse and their own complicated relationship into the doctor's home, Dr. and Mrs. Givings must examine the nature of their own marriage, and what it truly means to love someone.
June 6th, 7th, 12th, 13th, and 14th at 7:30 pm in the Decker Theater. Tickets are free for students, faculty, and staff of Clark College who can provide ID. Non-Clark employees or students can purchase tickets.

Hypnotic Intoxication Alcohol Awareness, May 7th, 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. in Gaiser Student Center
Come join us for the Hypnotic Intoxication Alcohol Awareness event with Keith Karkut. He shares true stories of how alcohol has affected the lives of college students. He invites participants from the crowd to join him on a “journey into the mind.” Through hypnosis, Karkut makes volunteers believe they have unlimited access to the most potent alcohol, but the participants will only be drinking bottled water. The volunteers will be passing out, stumbling around and slurring speech. – That’s right! People will be getting drunk off of bottles of water! After the volunteers are taken out of hypnosis, Karkut ties everything together with a powerful message that will encourage the students to rethink some of their decisions and realize what their future holds for them. Questions? Email Austyn at afuerstenberg@clark.edu.
