Tutoring Tip of the Week #5

Well, here we go! Turning the corner right into midterms! Projects and papers are due, exams are coming, schedules are filling. Have you found your rhythm? Are you caught up on your assignments? Do you have dedicated study time set aside to feel prepared for those exams? If you want any assistance with any of these areas, please come by a tutoring center near you. Many of our tutors are peer tutors. They are students just like you and they know the trials of juggling all those classes and life responsibilities. Learn from them what has worked for them and try to identify what will work for you! Did I mention, tutoring is FREE? 

We have another opportunity to join the AI: Impacts & Uses Workshop. Analyze your usage and understanding of AI to ensure you are getting the most out of the technology while ensuring it is being used ethically and responsibly. Artist Talk: Painter Anya Roberts-Toney, May 7, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Archer Gallery

Please join us to learn more about the artwork of Anya Roberts-Toney. Anya's oil paintings and works on paper explore feminine power and desire for connection with a feminine-charged landscape. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Portland Art Museum and Soho House, has been presented on Platform (a David Zwirner Project), and has been exhibited locally and nationally at locations including Disjecta Contemporary Art Center, Dust to Dust Projects, La Loma Annex, Nationale, The Portland ‘Pataphysical Society, the Office at Russo Lee, Somos Gallery, and Stephanie Chefas Projects. She is a winner of the Hopper Prize, a recipient of both a Photography Documentation Grant and a Career Opportunity Grant from the Oregon Arts Commission (with additional funding from the Ford Family Foundation), and a recipient of the Stumptown Artist Fellowship. Anya received her BA in Studio Art from Brown University and her MFA in Visual Studies from Pacific Northwest College of Art. Originally from Seattle, WA, she lives and works in Portland, OR, where she is represented by Nationale.

NW Step and Advising Services are proud to host a Spring Transfer Fair! Admissions and transfer specialists from a variety of colleges and universities will be available to answer your questions about admission requirements and how your credits from Clark will transfer. Keeping It Old School Club: Learn the Ropes & Shape What’s Next, May 7, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM in PUB 257

Thinking about getting more involved on campus—or even taking on a leadership role? Join Old School for a special meet-up where we’ll be connecting with ASCC to learn what goes into running a successful club.

We’ll cover the basics of how clubs operate, what support ASCC provides, and the process behind planning events and leading a student organization. Whether you’re just curious or seriously considering an officer role, this is a great chance to get a behind-the-scenes look and ask questions.

Columbia Writers Series Reading: Camille Dungy
A reading and discussion with poet and nonfiction author Camille Dungy. Dungy is the author of Soil: The Story of a Black Mother’s Garden, which was named book of the month by Hudson Booksellers, received the 2024 Award of Excellence in Garden and Nature Writing from The Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries, and was on the short list for the PEN/Jean Stein Award. Dungy has also written four collections of poetry, including Trophic Cascade, winner of the Colorado Book Award; and the essay collection Guidebook to Relative Strangers: Journeys into Race, Motherhood, and History, a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award.

Animals on Campus

Clark College does not allow animals in campus buildings unless they are service animals, (Policy 510.058 Animals on Campus). What counts as a service animal? Under the ADA and Washington State law a service animal is a dog that is individually trained to perform a specific task related to a disability. • Be enrolled in six (6) credits or more at Clark College.
• Possess and maintain a 2.50 cumulative grade point average at Clark College: and
• Have completed a minimum of twelve (12) college level credits at Clark College at time of application.
Compensation – Institutional Hire (not work-study eligible):
• Positions are paid $17.40 per hour
• Must be able to work 15 hours per week during regular business hours. Regular business hours are Monday-Thursday 9:00 am-4:00 pm.

Learn more about your unique personality type preferences and discover career possibilities. The Strong Interest Inventory career assessment, and the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator are assessments available to currently enrolled students. They include a detailed report that helps to identify interest areas, career pathways, and personality style strengths & preferences. These assessments are tools to help individuals learn about career options, understand themselves better and relationships with others. Sign-up to complete the assessment(s) and pick an interpretation session date. During the session, you'll receive your report(s) and learn strategies to support with your career or personal development.

Did you know that your local WorkSource offers a variety of free workshops (virtual and in person) to support jobseekers and career changers? Some example workshops offered are: Creating the Right Resume, Coping with Stress During the Job Search, Resolving Conflict at Work, How to Get Past the Applicant Tracking System, and more! Registration is required for virtual workshops.
