STEM Construction
STEM Building Construction is underway. It is an exciting project for the campus, and when it is complete it will help the next generations of students and reshape our campus. However, there are challenges in building a new building in the center of a city on a busy campus, so we've created this page to help you navigate those challenges.

Parking: The Yellow One Lot was fully re-opened at the beginning of winter quarter with additional parking spaces, further expanding parking options for students. A new parking lot at the north end of Yellow One will remain closed until the building is completed in 2016. The Yellow Two Lot is closed permanently. Initially it will be used for construction staging for STEM, and afterwards will serve as the south lawn of the new STEM building. The renovation of the Yellow One lot has added enough spaces to compensate for the loss of Yellow Two, and when the new lot to the north of Yellow One opens in 2016, it will further expand parking options.
The six-foot path between the north end of Yellow One parking lot and 4thPlain Blvd. is now in place.
Following are some additional modifications to the work that will remain in place until the STEM project is completed.
-
- A chain link construction fence will guide those using the six-foot path across the north end of Yellow One and onto the sidewalk on the west side of TBG.
- A full construction fence will close off entrances to the new parking lot at the north end of Yellow One until the project is completed in 2016.
- Parking spaces at the north end of Yellow One have been left unpainted to allow a drive lane around that end of the lot.
Access to the “T” Building: The “T” Building can currently be accessed only through the south entrance and the two west entrance. All doors will be available for emergency exiting only, but doors on the north, northeast, and east sides of the building will be locked from the outside. Signs will be placed at these doors to notify building occupants.
We have been in discussions with a number of departments serving specific populations from first-time students, to ESL students, to students served by DSS. Students and visitors should contact the correct program director if they have concerns about how to access buildings or classrooms during the construction.
Access to the Foundation House: Parking is very limited at the Foundation House. We recommend scheduling appointments with Foundation staff on campus.
Bus Stops on Fourth Plain: We have heard from students who typically get off the bus on Fourth Plain near the Foundation House and walk across campus. For the duration of the STEM project there will not be a good route across the construction site to campus.Students are encouraged to get off at the stop on Fort Vancouver Way and Fourth Plain, or to adjust their schedules to ride a bus that drops off on Fort Vancouver Way. A temporary lighted 6-foot-wide path has been installed at the northwest corner of Yellow One connecting with Fourth Plain Blvd. This is immediately west of and adjacent to the construction entrance, so please be aware of construction traffic there and be careful crossing the sidewalk in front of the entry gate.
