The ASCC (Associated Students of Clark College) is proudly sponsoring ’Sushi Making Workshop“ on Thursday, March 1st, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Penguin Union Building room 161.

This event will be divided in two parts. From 12pm to 1pm a limited amount of students (contact Pierre Boissin at asapb4@clark.edu to sign up) will learn how to make sushi with Yukiko Vossen.

The second part from 1:15pm to 2pm, Yukiko Vossen will present an introductory lecture about the rich food culture of Japan. The presentation will include a brief description of the regional foods unique to Japan; the array of food types and their preparation covered will add to your appreciation for the beauty of the Japanese cuisine.

This will be an exciting experience and is open and free to all students!

Middle and high school students who like to use their imagination and create things that make a difference to society will want to know about a special event at Clark College on March 3.

"Science in Action" will feature hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) led Clark College professors. The goal is to engage students who are interested in these classes and fields. The event is sponsored by the Clark College N.E.R.D. (Not Even Remotely Dorky) Girls Club.

The event will be held at Clark College…s main campus on Saturday, March 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Clark College is located at 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver. Driving directions and parking maps are available at www.clark.edu/maps.

The event is free, but you must register by Feb. 25. To register or for more information, write to nerdgirls.clark@gmail.com.

Participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch. Parents are also encouraged to attend.

Going on a vacation or planning a fun day trip during Spring Break? Take Oswald with you and you could win a gift card to the Clark College Bookstore!

Oswald on Spring Break Photo Contest is open to all faculty, students, and staff of Clark College. Stop by the Bookstore to adopt an official 2012 penguin toy ($2.50 adoption fee), snap some pictures with Oswald "on location", and submit your best picture. Easy!

All qualifying entries will be posted in the Bookstore for customers to see and vote for their favorite. Winners will be announced April 25.

Complete contest details will be available at the Clark College Bookstore beginning March 5th.

Join us for a presentation highlighting two Clark College staffers' international service projects! Jeri Kemmer will discuss her international development work using the Moringa tree to enhance food security, improve health and increase economic viability in Africa and Central America. Jody Shulnak will discuss her recent service project in Tibet, which provided educational resources to every child in a remote Himalayan village. The Shulnak Village School Project raised funds to donate backpacks, school supplies, school uniforms, a new playground and more to a support education in Tibet.

Bring your lunch and get inspired as you learn about these two projects and gain ideas for promoting globl citzenship!

Many of its powerful features are available in other graphics programs online for free. This workshop will briefly compare some of Photoshop—s advanced features-making selections, adding layers, retouching-with several leading free alternatives. No Photoshop experience necessary! A list including favorite (free!) basic editors will be available at the end.

The Iris Awards celebrate the lasting and far-reaching contributions of women in Southwest Washington and beyond. The awards, which will be presented on International Women's Day 2012, will honor the tradition of the regional "Women of Achievement" celebration but embrace a new direction for the future.

The announcement of the first Iris Award recipients will be made during the 2012 State of the College Address on Thursday, January 19. The award recipients will be honored at a reception and ceremony on Thursday, March 8, 2012 in Clark's Gaiser Student Center. At the 5 p.m. reception, guests can meet and congratulate the 2012 honorees. The program will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets will go on sale in late January.
