Why study Spanish at Clark College?
More than 40 million people in the United States speak Spanish at home, making it the country with the second-largest Spanish-speaking population in the world. There are 25 countries in the world where Spanish is spoken either as an official or a primary language.
Learning Spanish can help you think like a global citizen, enrich your travel experiences, connect with your heritage, improve your overall communication skills, and become more competitive in the job market. Additionally, learning Spanish sets you up for success in learning other Latin-based languages, like French and Italian.
Clark College’s interactive and immersive courses will help you communicate in Spanish starting on the very first day of class. Language lab tutoring sessions, community-based learning, club activities, and study abroad opportunities will increase your exposure to the Spanish language both inside and outside of the classroom. We offer classes in both face-to-face and online formats.
Career Opportunities
Speaking Spanish can give you an edge in the job market. The number of job postings from U.S. employers aimed at bilingual applicants more than doubled from 2010 to 2015, showing there is an increasing demand for language skills in the workplace, including in fields as diverse as healthcare, banking, tourism, and social work.
Additionally, Clark College students who take Spanish as part of their transfer Associate of Arts degree are positioned to continue their studies of the language at a four-year university in preparation for Spanish-related careers that require advanced degrees, like teaching or translating.
Study Abroad
Clark College students have the opportunity every summer to travel to a Spanish-speaking country through the college’s study abroad program. Scholarships are available to make this opportunity more affordable. Learn more by visiting our Study Abroad web page.
