662.001 Classified Employee Evaluation Process

In accordance with applicable WAC rules and collective bargaining agreements, each classified employee must be evaluated at least annually by his/her immediate supervisor, using the required form to record and inform employees regarding how well they have contributed to the fulfillment of College and job objectives and to support employees in their success and development. The evaluation of probationary and trial service employees must be completed no later than two weeks prior to the completion of the six-month probationary/trial service period.

Each permanent, classified employee is to be evaluated once during the calendar year. Supervisors may wish to evaluate all employees at the same time of the year, or to stagger evaluations throughout the year.  Supervisors may schedule evaluations at times most convenient for their departments; however, evaluations must be conducted annually and submitted to Human Resources

Procedural steps for classified employee evaluations are as follows:

  1. In January of each year, Human Resources will remind supervisors of the process and provide each supervisor with forms and procedures for the Performance Development Plan (PDP). The appraisal process should begin in sufficient time to complete all of the necessary steps annually. Human Resources will provide training to supervisors.

  2. As part of the process, the supervisor will meet with employees at the start of their review period and review the evaluation form, the position description and performance elements and expectations with the classified employee to discuss constructively the areas which need improvement. Note should also be made of the areas where the employee's work performance is exceptional. The supervisor must give a copy of the performance materials to the employee and retain a copy for the supervisor’s file.

  3. The evaluation form and current position description are submitted to the appropriate supervisor for his/her review.

  4. The evaluation materials are forwarded to Human Resources for final review and placement in the employee's file.
