Getting Started

The following activities are intended to help you explore career options, set goals, and build the skills and tools needed for success. Throughout your journey, take time to reflect on your career goals, meet with a Career Advisor, attend workshops, and connect with faculty and industry professionals to learn about different career paths.

Opportunities

  • Determine your career related values and goals.

  • Connect with faculty — ask them about their career path.
  • Think about next steps — what are your goals past program completion?

Strengthen

  • Check out the Penguin Jobs website — what opportunities peak your interest?
  • Identify a dream job — how can you develop the needed skills?
  • Meet with an industry professional for an informational interview.
  • Identify — what does career success look like to you.
  • Meet with a Career Advisor — discuss interests and ensure this path is the one for you.

Work Portfolio

  • Revise or start your resume and cover letter with Career Services.
  • Create or spruce up your LinkedIn for maximum impact.
  • Start documenting your career goal progress — are they still true to you?
  • Combine your work portfolio — resume, cover letter, references.
  • Ensure that your documents reflect your authentic self.

Halfway There

As you progress on your career readiness journey the activities that follow can help prepare you for your next step after college. During your time at Clark, you ll have an opportunity to apply new skills and studies. Seek opportunities in and out of the classroom. Ask for advice from faculty and begin looking into professional organizations and networking opportunities to help you on your career path. Begin taking steps to transfer or find a job or starting an apprenticeship, while reflecting on skills gained and celebrating accomplishments.

Achieve

  • Look for classroom experiences to leverage into your career like example projects or internships.
  • Identify your next step post program completion.
  • Attend at least one career event or job fair.
  • Grow your network — start with faculty and peers.
  • Continue to document class projects, service learning, etc.

Launch

  • Consider an internship — looking for one? Career Services can help!
  • Connect with faculty — what advice do they have?
  • Research professional organizations to join.
  • Start your career search with Penguin Jobs.
  • Reflect and envision yourself in your career path — how does it feel?

Discover

  • Take the next steps — transfer, find a job, apprenticeship, what's next?
  • Identify and reflect — how has Clark prepared you for whats next? What skills did you learn?
  • Ask faculty, staff, and peers for a letter of recommendation.
  • Stay in touch with your Clark network, connect on LinkedIn and follow Clark College.
