Frequently Asked Questions

The following are answers to frequently asked questions about the Dental Hygiene Program. 

Prerequisites

Do all of the prerequisites have to be completed by the dental hygiene application deadline?

No. However, candidates must have no more than 10 credits in pre-dental hygiene requirements left to complete by the end of winter quarter of the application year.

Will my prerequisite coursework transfer from another institution?

Official copies of all college transcripts must be submitted before an evaluation can be completed for consideration into the dental hygiene program.

Are online prerequisites acceptable?

To determine if online prerequisties are accepted, please contact our Advising department. They can review your coursework and help determine what is applicable to this program. 

Are grades important for acceptance to the dental hygiene program?

Yes. Candidates must earn a 2.60 or better GPA in all applicable and science prerequisite coursework for consideration into the dental hygiene program.

Will my college coursework from 10 years ago be accepted?

Some college coursework from 10 years ago may be accepted. However, the science requirements must be completed within seven years of entrance into the dental hygiene program.

Can I finish some of my general education requirements while in the dental hygiene program?

This may be an option for some students. Before pursuing this option, we recommend meeting with Advising and Financial Aid to determine the best options for you and how this may impact financial aid or scholarships. 

Application Process

Is there a waiting list?

The Dental Hygiene program is one of the most popular programs at Clark College. Depending on the number of applicants each year, there may be a waiting list. 

What are the priority science courses?

All science courses are cosnidered priority.

When is the application available?

The program application is made available in October, three months prior to the application deadline.

Does the program include summer quarter?

Yes.

What degree will I receive when I finish the dental hygiene program?

Bachelor of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene Degree

How long does it take to earn a bachelor of applied science in dental hygiene degree?

Required prerequisites take approximately two years to complete, followed by two years of dental hygiene coursework.

Where is the dental hygiene program located?

The Dental Hygience program is located on Clark's main campus in the Health Science Building.

Can the dental hygiene program be taken online?

 No.

Can the dental hygiene program be taken part-time?

No, this is a full-time program and requires a 40-hour per week commitment from students for classes and clinical rotations. Reliable transportation is an important consideration. Clinical assignments may be offered at times other than traditional clinical hours, such as evenings (other than Monday-Friday, 5:00am-7:00pm) and/or weekends.
