"It is our great pleasure to welcome you as a full-time faculty member here at Clark College."~ Gail Liberman, Director of the TLC
"Thanks to the faculty retreat, I no longer feel apprehension when I think about assessment and instead I consider it a helpful tool. The training new faculty received at this retreat equipped us with practical approaches for learner-centered instruction in order to facilitate and enrich student learning. I wish I attended such a retreat years ago."
~Radmila Ballada, New Library Faculty
The TLC invites you to join us for 4 days of familiarizing you with your new surroundings and answering your questions concerning your role in achieving the college’s vision and priorities.
Participants were asked to complete a few short activities prior to attending the New Full-Time Faculty Retreat.
September 2, 2008
The TLC coordinated with the secretary seniors and the department/division heads to ensure that each new faculty member’s immediate needs to begin teaching are met. Examples could include accessing your office, computer, email, and student rosters, parking permits and ID badges, and other necessities for feeling at home and getting started.
September 3rd, 4th and 5th, 2008
The New Full-Time Faculty Retreat will provide new full-time faculty with new ideas and tools for teaching their own courses.
During the retreat you will spend time developing your course syllabi, assessment tools, and learning centered activities that you will include in your courses. The time will be spent in developing your course curriculum with insightful support from other teachers from across the campus.
Networking is consistently mentioned as one of the most valuable resources gained from the retreat. Even if a faculty member previously held a part-time position at Clark, this retreat will be invaluable.
This retreat will focus on:
1) The student population here at Clark and how they learn.
2) The policies and procedures for advancing on the faculty pay scale through faculty development.
3) Outlining each faculty member’s Student Learning Outcome Assessment Project that is required as part of the instructor contract.
4) The learner centered environment and how to create it in eLearning and classroom courses.
5) A variety of classroom and eLearning teaching and assessment techniques that can be immediately implemented in their courses.
Through this interactive process instructors will have the opportunity to meet fellow Clark faculty members from across the campus, share knowledge, expertise and skills related to student learning, and answer questions about all the day-to-day details involved in the new position.

Two textbooks will be given: McKeachie’s Teaching Tips and Angelo and Cross’s Classroom Assessment Techniques. We will focus on the topics addressed in these two books.
There will be monthly opportunities for your to get together with the folks you meet during the retreat and share your experiences in our Faculty Fellows Program.
