The Clark College men’s soccer program is one of the premier junior college soccer teams in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC). It has been successful since its inception in 1994 and continues to excel.
The goal of the Clark College men’s soccer team is for students to be successful in the classroom and on the field. Many of the programs players have gone on to play at a wide array of four-year colleges and universities throughout the United States.
Biniam Afenegus, Greater Saint Helen’s League (GSHL) Class 3A coach of the year, is the new men’s soccer coach at Clark College. Afenegus has spent the last nine years coaching for high schools and premier club teams in the region.
According to Clark College Interim Director of Athletics Dennis Huston, “During the two years that he was coach at Fort Vancouver High School, he took a struggling program and in just two years, qualified for the playoffs, finishing second in the Class 3A of the Great Saint Helen’s League (GSHL).” Huston added, “Biniam Afenegus has also won state championships and has consistently taken premier teams in our region to the quarter finals. Now he and his student athletes have brought another championship to Clark College.”
Huston noted, “Biniam Afenegus is well respected in the regional soccer community and has been an outstanding addition to our staff. Biniam is committed to the educational as well as athletic goals of our student athletes. That is very important to the college as a whole, and a commitment that the athletic department has made to our student athletes.”
