CLARK COLLEGE TRUSTEES
SELECT INTERIM PRESIDENT
Acting CEO and Vice President of Administrative Services Bob Knight will assume the duties of Interim President
VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Clark College Board of Trustees has voted to name Bob Knight, Acting CEO and Vice President of Administrative Services at the college, as its interim President. The unanimous vote came during a meeting of the board on Sept. 28.
Prior to the vote, the board engaged consultant David Pierce to meet with administrators, faculty, staff, students and representatives of the Clark College Foundation to obtain their feedback on the attributes they felt were important in an interim president. Trustee Addison Jacobs, who coordinated the process with Trustee Kim Peery, noted that the attributes that were most frequently cited by the college community included a desire for continuity, local connections, staying the course on the college's strategic plan and initiatives, and an open communication style. Trustee Jacobs praised Bob Knight for, in her words, “stepping up admirably” while serving as both acting CEO and Vice President of Administrative Services.
Knight, who succeeds president R. Wayne Branch, joined Clark College in 2004 as Vice President of Administrative Services, coming from private industry. He was named acting CEO in August 2006.
In assuming the new position, Knight said, “I am honored that the Board of Trustees and the college community have the confidence in my leadership. I am committed to doing my best to assist the college in moving forward and executing our strategic plan in support of student success.”
Board chair Rhona Sen Hoss said, “We look forward to working with interim President Bob Knight as we continue to take ‘The Next Step’ to serve our students and our community.”
Knight previously held positions as Executive Vice President for Sales and Service for a 200 member company in the dental industry and as Corporate Manager for Real Estate, responsible for $500,000,000 in real estate for Consolidated Freightways in the trucking industry.
Prior to his positions in private industry, Knight served over 21 years as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. His secondary training as an officer is as a comptroller. His last duty in the Army was as Commander of Vancouver Barracks in Vancouver, Washington.
Bob Knight received his undergraduate degree in Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and earned an Executive MBA at Golden Gate University in San Francisco.
As Vice President of Administrative Services, Knight has supervised the team responsible for sustaining the day-to-day operations of the college campus. This includes budgeting, accounting, purchasing, construction, building maintenance, grounds maintenance, security, information technology and auxiliary services.
