TAKING THE NEXT STEP TO WELCOME STUDENTS TO CLARK COLLEGE |
When students arrive at Clark College each quarter, they always receive a warm welcome. This fall was no exception.
But this year Clark College has taken extra steps to start the academic year with a focus on student success.
On Friday, September 15, the college hosted a Student Welcome Day for nearly 450 students, parents and families. It included a welcome session and student roundtables. Student success workshops were offered on topics including time management and deciding on a major. Parents and family members were invited to sessions on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Financial Aid, and "How to Support Your Student."

New students also learned about student clubs, activities and college resources to make the most of their Clark experience. A welcome barbeque was held at lunchtime.

Vice President of Student Affairs Rachel Ruiz noted, "The success of our Student Welcome Day was due to the great collaboration among Student Affairs, faculty, ASCC, and many more. The feedback that we received from students, parents and staff was that it was a wonderfully uplifting event. The students felt they would be better prepared to come to their first official day at the college because they had made connections with faculty and staff members -- and with other students."
Ruiz added, "There was a strong spirit of engagement and excitement. It really was 'The Next Step' for our students and for Clark College."
