Microsoft Student Resources

Clark College provides free Office 365 to students while they are actively and currently enrolled in courses of one credit or more. The service includes Office 2016 software downloads on up to five devices and 1 TB of OneDrive storage space. Access to Office 365 including the OneDrive storage only lasts while the student is enrolled and will deactivate when the student is no longer in courses. This means stored content may only be viewed after deactivation.

To download free Office 2016 apps for home use

Once you have registered for and logged into your Clark College-provided Office 365, the home page will display an Install Office button. In the dropdown menu, select Office 365 apps. This will download an executable file to start the install process. After download, open the program and select Run. Ensure you allow the install wizard to make changes to your computer and be sure to stay online during the install. Once the install is complete, you may be prompted to log in again with your student account and your desktop apps will then be activated. Up to five device installs are allowed.

NOTE: Free downloads of Microsoft products are a benefit provided by Microsoft, and the college does not provide technical support for the use of these products on your personal device.  None of the products available should be downloaded to college-owned devices.

The following situations cover the most common problems encountered by students regarding Office 365:

I can't log in.     First, you have access to this service only if you are enrolled in a course in the current term. If you are in classes and should have access, ensure you are entering your full student email free of errors and you're using your Clark Account password. You may check if your Clark Account login works on lab computers or your library account. In the case of failure, try resetting the Clark Account password following the instructions on the Student Accounts page.

Students whose Clark Account password works everywhere else except Office 365 will have to reactivate their accounts. Those who have not logged into the Clark College network at any location within the past four months, after skipping a term for example, will need to log into the Clark network at any campus location and then try to log into Office 365 on the next business day.

I no longer have the phone number or email that I registered with.     This security data cannot be updated by the student. If you encounter a problem, contact TechHub to help you request a multifactor authorization reset from the administrators.

I can log in, but I can't download the Office software.    Contact TechHub to verify whether your licenses were issued. Some Microsoft licenses may need to be reissued to restore the download options.

I can't install my desktop software.    Verify that you have a reliable internet connection to avoid any disruption to the install. Try a reinstall after first removing the Office suite from your computer to begin with a clean installation. The install may take a long time and even appear as if it has completed. Leave the install progressing until a dialog box prompts you to log into the Office 365 account again. If you don't get this prompt following the install, you can open an Office program like Word and log into your student account. A message might display a button to activate your account.

NOTE: TechHub will make sure you can access your Office 365 account via web and have access to download, but Agents cannot help with installation on personal devices other than to offer suggestions. Students may seek further assistance with personal devices from the Penguin Helpdesk.

I don't know how to use some of these programs.     A few courses are offered on campus to learn Office programs, but it you're searching for a free option, Microsoft offers basic training for all of its programs. Browse through the Office 365 Training Center to access easy instruction on how to use the Office 365 suite.

What is included with Office 365 access?     A full, installed Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Skype for Business, and OneDrive for Business. Install on up to five PCs or Macs, tablets (Windows, iPad, or Android), and mobile devices with Office Mobile. Who is eligible for Clark College-provided Office 365 ProPlus?     All students enrolled in credit-earning courses during the current term may register for and access Office 365.

What if I'm skipping a term?    Students should download any documents stored in OneDrive that will be needed before the next term they will be enrolled and save the documents elsewhere while access is still available. After an account has been deactivated, any documents will be view-only. Students will have to log in on any campus site and wait one business day to reactivate their accounts if a term or more has been skipped.

What are the system requirements to run Office 365?    View minimum requirements on Microsoft's System Requirements page. Search for Office 365 subscription plans>Office 365 plans for business, education, and government. It's recommended that you use the most updated browser versions when using the web apps.

What can I do if I'm not authorized to use the college-provided Office 365?     Students may use the free web versions of Office Online using a personal login. Access to your personal account is not connected to Clark and will not lapse when not enrolled. Alternatively, the Clark College student email account is a full Google account including Google web apps such as Docs and Slides and 30 gigabytes of Google Drive storage. This account doesn't lapse between terms, and the Google apps support exporting documents in Microsoft Office formats.
