Applying for a Stafford Loan
Before you can submit a Stafford Loan Application, you need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and apply for financial aid through the Financial Aid Department.
Once you receive your award letter, you can complete these three steps:
- Complete the Entrance Interview through Clark College’s website. (If you have completed an Entrance Interview for Clark College within the last two years, you do not need to complete a new one).
- Complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN) for your lender through Clark College’s website. (If you are borrowing from the same lender that you used in a prior year, the MPN from your previous Stafford Loan should still be valid and a new one is not required).
- Complete and submit the Stafford Loan Application to the Financial Aid Office.
Once you have finished this process and your eligibility is confirmed, your loan will be processed. If any further information is needed, you will be contacted. Once your loan is certified, you will receive a new award letter that lists the amount of the loan.
Loan funds are sent to Clark College electronically. Outstanding tuition is paid first, and then a check is cut for the balance of the funds. Loan funds are available starting the first day of each quarter. When your funds are available to pick up, you will need to have a completed Proof of Attendance form and picture ID.
Clark College will certify your loan with any lender that you request on your Stafford Loan Application. If you are unsure of which lender to choose, you may want to look at our list of Suggested Lenders for some ideas of the different benefits offered by lenders.
