The professional librarian is trained in a graduate school of librarianship
after completing a baccalaureate degree. Undergraduate work should
provide a broad general education including familiarity with computers
and the Internet, and may include a foreign language. Technical librarians
should stress the sciences. School librarians are trained as teachers
in colleges of education, and their programs do not always include
a language requirement.
Students should follow the recommended course of study of the
University of Washington and other library schools accredited by
the American Library Association.
