Early Childhood Education (ECE)
I-BEST pairs English as a Second Language (ESL) and/or Adult Basic Education (ABE) instructors with career and technical education instructors in the classroom to concurrently provide students with literacy education and workforce skills. I-BEST challenges the traditional notion that students must first complete all levels of basic education before they can begin workforce training.
Students will take a variety of ECE courses over two quarters. In addition to ECE classes, this program will provide students with a support class to help with academic skills (such as college-level reading and writing,) study strategies, portfolio development, and computer skills.
ECE Initial Certificate of Completion
Upon completion, students will be able to work in programs for young children (infant to 5 years old) providing care and education to children and families.
Degree and Certificate Options:
The 18 credit ECE Initial Certificate of Completion is earned in two quarters. These credits can also apply to an Associate of Applied Science degree, an Associate of Applied Science in ECE Transfer degree, or additional certificates such as:
- Advanced Applied Curriculum Planning Certificate of Achievement
- Family Child Care Certificate of Achievement
- Infants and Toddlers Certificate of Achievement
- School-Age Certificate of Achievement
- Certificate of Proficiency
Entry Requirements
- Complete Clark College Admissions Application and pay $20.
- Complete background check through the Department of Early Learning.
- Minimum ESL level 6A required. CASAS score with a minimum of 221 in reading.
- GED or high school diploma not required, but recommended for Federal Financial Aid or Grant Assistance.

Vancouver Way, Vancouver, WA every Thursday at 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m or WorkSource, Room 3, Town Plaza Center on Mondays at 3:30 p.m. or contact program manager for appointment.
