Her communications career included positions as news director, anchor, reporter, and producer at network television affiliates in Ohio and Maryland. She has served as a media advisor for government, business, public and nonprofit organizations in cities including New York City; San Francisco; and Washington, D.C. as well as overseas in Bulgaria, Hong Kong and The Philippines.
Her reporting skills took her to national events including political conventions, Presidential debates, and the return of the American hostages from Iran to the United States. Her credits include coverage of education, government, health and the U. S. space program. Ms. Kerr also earned praise for her interviews with an impressive list of newsmakers including former Presidents Jimmy Carter and George Bush.
In 1996, Ms. Kerr received the "Leading Change Award" from the Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter of Women in Communications. Her other honors include an Emmy Award nomination from the Cincinnati/Columbus/Dayton chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. She was also named "Achiever of the Year" by the Dayton Chapter of American Women in Radio and Television.
Ms. Kerr noted that she was drawn to Clark College "because of its extraordinary impact in Southwest Washington. For over half of the Clark County high school graduates who go on to college, Clark College is the next step. We are also the leading provider of Continuing Education, Adult Basic Education, Workforce Development, and English as a Second Language. In every area, Clark is committed to student success and excellence in teaching."
She added, "A 2003 study showed that Clark College is responsible for $312 million in annual earnings in Southwest Washington. For every credit that a Clark student completes, he or she will earn $100 more per year every year that they are in the workforce. For every dollar of state tax money invested in Clark College, there is a return on investment of $4.71. Our students truly enrich the social, cultural and economic vitality of our region and the global community."
Ms. Kerr graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Television-Radio from Ithaca College in New York. She joined Clark College in September 2004.
