Clark's STEM Branches Out to Spark Girls' Interest in Science Careers

On Tuesday, Feb. 8, Clark College
will host a Women in STEM Career Panel

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Why don't more girls pursue careers in science? How can educators spark their girls' curiosity about science and interest in technology, math and engineering?

On Tuesday, Feb. 8, Clark College will host a Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Career Panel, featuring four local women who have successfully pursued careers in science. Participants will learn about how these women got started in science, why they are passionate about it, and how to join them on that career path.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in the Penguin Student Lounge, located in the Penguin Union Building on Clark's main campus. Clark College is located at 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver. Driving directions and parking maps are available at www.clark.edu/maps.

The panelists will include Terra Heilman, waste reduction specialist for Waste Connections, Inc.; Jennifer E. Kyle, NASA Fellowship Astrobiologist; Tammi Mackey, fisheries biologist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; and Laura Sauermilch of the Washington Dept. of Ecology, who also co-coordinates Green Drinks, informal monthly sessions for people who work in the environmental field.
