Tracking Success:
Clark College Honors Student Athletes of the Month

Student athletes Tyler Lane and Katarina Mueller are honored
for their leadership on Clark’s track and field teams

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Two All-American athletes have been named the Clark College Student Athletes of the Month for May 2011. Tyler Lane and Katarina Mueller were honored for their accomplishments on Clark’s track and field teams.

Student Athlete of the Month Katarina MuellerFreshman Katarina Mueller came to Clark from Mountain View High School.  An All-American in the 10K, Mueller placed second in that event at the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) championships with a time of 40:10. The next day, she placed fifth in the 5K with a time of 19:12. Track and field head coach Amber Moore said, “Kat is a hard working, dedicated athlete who has shown great improvement from high school.”  A member of the Clark’s women’s cross country team which won the 2010 NWAACC championship, Mueller is expected to compete in both cross country and track next year.

Student Athlete of the Month Tyler LaneSophomore Tyler Lane came to Clark from Skyview High School. An All-American in the high jump, Lane is the two-time high jump NWAACC champion, jumping over 6'7'' in 2010 and 2011. Coach Moore said, “Tyler's hard work and dedication to the track and field team helped the Penguins by scoring points throughout the season in the high jump, long jump, decathlon, 4x100 and javelin.” Moore added that Lane “will return to Clark next season to help coach the jumps while taking his redshirt year before he transfers to continue his education.”  Lane previously earned Student Athlete of the Month honors in April 2010.

The Student Athlete of the Month program recognizes both the academic and athletic achievements of Clark’s student athletes.  Two recipients are selected each month by a committee that includes Clark College coaches, athletic department personnel, and fellow students.

Each honoree receives a jacket with his or her name embroidered on it. The jackets are provided by Les Schwab through its support of the “Student Athlete of the Month” program, in partnership with Clark’s Penguin Athletic Club and the Clark College Foundation.
