FROM BUSINESS AND GOVERNMENT
TO EDUCATION
AND COMMUNITY SERVICE

Jack Burkman has been appointed by Gov. Chris Gregoire
to serve on the Clark College Board of Trustees

Clark College trustee Jack BurkmanVANCOUVER, Wash. – With experience in business and government and a commitment to community service, Jack Burkman has been appointed to the Clark College Board of Trustees.  The appointment, which was effective Oct. 1, was made by Gov. Chris Gregoire.  Burkman succeeds Kim Peery, who served as a Clark trustee for 10 years.

Raised in western Montana, Jack Burkman was the first in his family to graduate from college, earning a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Montana State University. He worked for Hewlett Packard (HP) for nearly 28 years – including 21 years in Vancouver – managing all aspects of new consumer inkjet product development. After retiring from HP in 2005, Burkman served as the Southwest Region Planning Manager for the Washington State Dept. of Transportation.

Burkman, who served a term on the Vancouver City Council, says his experiences in business and government have shaped his aspirations for his work as a trustee.  “This is a challenging – but exciting – time in Clark College’s history: a fast changing, global world; a tough economy; and a community that is looking to Clark to help them deal with these issues,” said Burkman.

For more than 20 years, Burkman has volunteered with organizations including the Clark County Planning Commission, C-TRAN, and the Southwest Washington Clean Air Agency.  Burkman continues to serve on the Fort Vancouver Regional Library Board of Trustees and the YWCA Board of Directors.  He recently completed his Professional Coach certification from Antioch University – Seattle.

“Clark College has played an important role in this community for 75 years,” Burkman said. “In partnership with WSU, the college provides an educational foundation for this region. Clark is critical to the region’s economic development and both the professional and personal development of our residents.”

Burkman and his wife Sherry have lived in Vancouver for nearly 25 years.  They have three children and two grandchildren. Burkman’s hobbies include photography, computers, rebuilding sports cars, reading, and a variety of home projects.
