A GRAND REOPENING FIT FOR A PENGUIN KING

 

On Friday, June 13, Clark College will celebrate the reopening of the remodeled Gaiser Hall

 

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Forget the myths about bad luck on Friday the 13th.  Friday. June 13, 2008 will be a day of good fortune at Clark College as the college hosts the grand reopening celebration for the newly remodeled Gaiser Hall. 

 

The brief ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. with remarks from Clark College President Bob Knight and Associated Students of Clark College (ASCC) President Patrick Mehigan.  A ribbon-cutting will follow.  Following the ceremony, at approximately 9:15, refreshments will be served and Clark student ambassadors will give tours of the new building.   Clark College’s penguin mascot Oswald will also take part in the celebration. Clark College is located at 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, between E. McLoughlin Blvd. and Fourth Plain Blvd, Vancouver. 

 

The new section of Gaiser Hall, which originally opened in 1958, is the hub for student services at Clark College.  LSW Architects designed the $10 million project, which was built under the guidance of General Contractor Emerick Construction. 

 

Construction began in December 2006 and was completed in March 2008.  The project consists of approximately 24,000 square feet of new construction and approximately 38,000 square feet of remodeled space (structural and nonstructural).  The new facilities uses passive and active heating and cooling technologies, including the use of chilled beam technology and radiant cooling and heating within some slab areas. 

 

LSW Architects plans to verify that the project meets the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver certification.  LEED certification verifies that a building project meets the highest green building and performance measures and that the building is environmentally responsible and a healthy place to live and/or work.

EDITOR’S NOTE:  Depending on weather, the grand opening ceremony will either be held outside the north entrance of Gaiser Hall or in the foyer near the south entrance.   Following the Gaiser reopening celebration, ASCC will host its annual Spring Thing from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Spring Thing is a day for students to celebrate their last day of spring classes.  This year’s celebration will include music, airbrush tattoos, refreshments, a magician, tarot card and palm reading, and balloon animals.  In addition, students will be able to take part in rock climbing, interactive inflatable games, and dunk tanks featuring special guests throughout the day.
