CLARK COLLEGE & COMMON COURSE NUMBERING

Common course numbering is the next step to help Clark students
transfer credits and earn degrees

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Starting with the summer quarter of 2008, students who have attended Clark College in the past will notice something different when they sign up for classes.  It’s called “common course numbering.”

Under common course numbering (CCN), classes at Clark College will now have the same number – and name – as similar classes at all of Washington’s 34 community and technical colleges.

According to Clark College President Robert K. Knight, “This change will make it easier for students to transfer between community colleges in Washington by identifying which courses are similar from school to school.  The goal is to make it easier for students to transfer credits and complete their degrees at any of our state’s community and technical colleges.”

In Clark’s schedules and on the college Web site, listings for common courses include an ampersand sign (&).   In addition, the names of some courses have changed so that they too are consistent across the state.

Knight noted that courses that don’t fall under common course numbering may still transfer to other community colleges.  He encouraged students to check with their advisor or contact the college’s credentials office for more information.

Knight added, “We know that this change will benefit our students.”

Students who have additional questions about which classes to take under the new common course numbers should contact Clark’s Advising Department at 360-992-2345.
