Replaces Alex Kirk as Clark Penguins head coach

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Kevin Johnson has been named Clark College’s new men’s basketball coach. The appointment follows the departure of Clark Basketball head coach Alex Kirk, who resigned earlier this month. After an impressive interim season, Coach Johnson is ready and excited for the challenge.

“I just want to say thank you to President Knight and Athletic Director Chris Jacob for this opportunity, and to Coach Kirk for leaving a strong legacy. I’m thrilled to be part of the Clark team and am looking forward to getting started with the team,” stated Coach Johnson.

The Penguins had a tough start to the 2017 southern conference season, winning just three of the season’s first seven games. That did not phase Coach Johnson or the Penguins, as they persevered to finish the conference 10-6 and ended in first place. This accomplishment shows the type of determination and willingness to win that Coach Johnson and the Penguins have, and that he hopes to instill in his players with anything that they do in life.

“We are happy that Coach Johnson is going to be leading the Penguins on a permanent basis. With his experience and coaching philosophy, I am excited to see what the future brings to the program,” said Interim Athletic Director Chris Jacob.
