Cannell Library Chimes is an electronic resource for information and ideas to support teaching and learning at Clark College.

Heads up! When you return to campus this fall, Cannell Library will have a new online catalog from Innovative Interfaces, Inc. ("Triple I"). Funded in part by a Foundation grant, the new online system will provide an improved interface for locating books, reserves, media and other library resources. Join us on September 12th from 10-11 for an orientation to the new system. If you're just bursting with questions and can't wait for September, stop by the library and get the scoop from Leonoor Ingraham-Swets.
Summer Hours
| The library is pleased to add Friday mornings to the regular summer schedule, making this summer's library hours as follows: | |
| June 14th through June 22nd | Closed for quarter break* |
| June 23 -- August 15 |
Mon, Wed, Thurs: 9:00 am - 6:00 pm Tue: 9:00 am - 7:00 pm Fri: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm |
|
*During the quarter break, the library is accessible Monday through Friday afternoon from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm for faculty and staff. During the break and on Friday afternoons during the summer quarter, faculty and staff may gain admittance by ringing the back door buzzer or calling ahead to x2329, x2255 or x2257. To meet with a particular person check first with Susan Harvey, x2329, to make sure the person is available. The decision to set library hours is not an easy task. User statistics help us determine which hours will meet the most needs. |

Congratulations, Scott!
Library/Media's ever-cheerful, always-helpful Scott Root received the "Together We Can Award" in May. As Lead Media Technician, Scott is well-known on campus and never hesitates to go the extra mile to help out. "This award has special meaning because of it's origin," Scott said. "Receiving recognition from one's peers confirms that we are all connected in some way and that what I do really has a positive effect on others. I really appreciate the thoughts that accompany the award." |
Student Assistant Honored
Bon Ung, a student assistant in the Circulation Department, received an Outstanding Student Employee Award at the Spring awards ceremony. In nominating Bon, Circulation Supervisor Amy Waite noted Bon's accuracy and reliability as well as his eagerness to learn. "Bon is an industrious worker who is ready to help with any task. He will truly be missed when he leaves to continue his education." |

Susan Stumped the Jock! Library Administrative Assistant Susan Harvey won dinner for two from K103 radio by "stumping the jocks" with her question, "When, where and why was the European Starling introduced into North America?" The Answer? The 200 million starlings in North America can be traced back to Central Park in the early 1890s, when a mere 100 darling starlings were set loose by Eugene Scheiffelin, who wanted New York to have all the songbirds mentioned in Shakespeare's plays. New Reference Books
In response to student needs, the library recently received funds to spiff up the reference collection with many new encyclopedias and other reference books. Some of these titles are updates of earlier editions, many are new to our collection. Here's sample of the new books, in order by Library of Congress Classification.
