Circulation Policies

Library CardsLibrary card
  • A valid library card from Cannell Library is required to borrow Clark College library materials including course reserves that are restricted to library use only.
  • All current Clark College students, faculty and staff may obtain a library card at the Cannell Library Check Out Desk by presenting picture identification and confirmation of their current mailing address regardless of residence.
  • Residents of community college service district 14 and over age 16 may apply for a Cannell Library card with valid picture identification and proof of current residence.
  • Cardholders are responsible for the prompt return and the physical condition of any items checked out on their card. Lost or stolen cards must be reported.
Checkout/Return
  • Books in the general collection are loaned for 21 days. If any item is overdue, it must be returned or renewed before any more materials may be checked out. A maximum of 2 renewals is allowed provided there are no holds for the item. All circulating items are subject to recall at any time.
  • Reference books, periodicals, most reserves for classes and certain other designated items are not permitted to be removed from the library. A total limit of 15 Cannell Library items checked out per library card will be enforced.
  • Library materials are checked out and returned to the Check Out desk. To return materials when the library is closed, green metal boxes are located just outside the Library entrance and near the parking lot on the north walkway to central Gaiser Hall.
Video/Audio Collection
Students may borrow one videocassette, audiotape or CD for use inside the library at a time. Listening/viewing equipment is available on the second floor. Faculty may only check out videocassettes for their Clark College classes.
Loan Periods
A limit of 15 items per patron may be checked out.
Books in the general collection check out for three weeks.
Renewals
A maximum of two renewals are allowed provided there are no holds on the items being renewed.

Periodicals
Periodicals are for library use only and holds cannot be placed on them. Class reserves are not subject to renewal.

Class Reserves
Materials placed on reserve by instructors are available from the Check Out Desk. A maximum of two print reserves and one audiovisual item may be checked out for use. Reserves cannot be renewed or have holds placed on them. Loan periods vary depending on class need.

Overdues and Damaged Fines
Overdue items and fines for damaged materials may prevent Clark College students from receiving grades and transcripts or registering for classes. Check out privileges will be suspended and Clark College students blocked when library materials are billed. All items must be returned and/or fines paid before a library block is released.

Lost and Found
Lost and Found Items are held at the Circulation Desk for a short time, then taken to Campus Security in Central Gaiser Hall.
