Clark Softball Gives Back

Softball team strengthens connections to community while volunteering for local food bank

September is harvest season, and tucked away in the middle of Vancouver is something many people may not know about: the Clark County Food Bank’s own farm.

For the third year in a row, Clark College Softball spent time volunteering at one of the Clark County Food Bank’s harvest work parties. This year, the 2026–27 Penguins helped prepare rows for next year’s harvest, prep green beans, and harvest cucumbers that will help feed members of the local community.

Head Coach Ciera Jones, entering her fourth year leading the Penguins, knows that acts of service can have an impact far beyond the hours spent volunteering. Giving back provides student-athletes with an opportunity to build stronger connections with their community, strengthen relationships with one another, and support their overall well-being.

That is why community service also serves as one of Clark Softball’s first team-bonding experiences each fall. Before focusing on wins, losses, and the season ahead, the Penguins spend time working together to make a difference in the community they represent. Each month, members of the team dedicate at least two hours to serving organizations and projects throughout the community.

The program’s partnership with the Clark County Food Bank extends beyond volunteering at the farm. Many Clark student-athletes are living on their own for the first time, and the Food Bank has provided cooking classes and nutrition workshops to help players learn how to prepare meals and fuel their bodies as college athletes.

The Clark County Food Bank also works with the Penguin Pantry, an important on-campus resource that helps provide food and other necessities to Clark College students.
