How do I apply for Veterans’ Benefits?

Applying for your VA Educational Benefits:

  • Apply on-line using the VA’s VONAPP web, print a copy of your application and bring it to Clark College’s VA office so that we can create your file and get your benefits started.
 
Do I qualify for VA-work study?
  • To qualify for VA Work-Study: Veterans must attend school at the 3/4 or full-time rate and be eligible and receiving VA Educational Benefits.

What form(s) do I use to apply?
  • If you have never used your benefits before, apply for MGIB by using either VA Form 22-1990, or for Survivors’ and Dependants’ Benefits use VA Form 22-5490. 
     
  • If you have used your benefits before, complete a change of program or place of training VA Form 22-1995 (for MGIB) or VA Form 22-5495 for Survivors’ and Dependants’ Benefits.

What do I have to do to assure I will be paid?

Once you have applied to Clark College please do the following in order to be paid:

  • Visit our office for information about getting your benefits started and the enrollment process at Clark.
     
  • Bring or email to veterans@clark.edu, a copy of your class schedule before each quarter. 
     
  • For students using MGIB (Chapters 30, 1606 and 1607), be sure to verify your enrollment on the last calendar day of each month you attend classes either by calling the MGIB Monthly Verification System at 1-877-823-2378 or online using Web Automated Verification of Enrollment (WAVE).
  • Maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.
  • Have military transcripts and other college education evaluated prior to your third quarter of attendance.  Contact our office for any information regarding VA Educational Benefits.

Who do I contact if I have questions about eligibility?
Call the VA at 1-888-GI BILL (1-888-442-4551).  Note that the Clark College’s Veterans Affairs Department does not determine or confirm eligibility for educational benefits; this is done by the regional VA Office in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
 
What do I do if there is a problem with my pay?

Make sure you have done everything required in order to receive your benefits, as outlined above.  Also, check our Reasons for Delay page for further information.  In addition, you may contact Clark College’s VA office for further assistance.

 
Will I receive pay during the breaks between terms?
Break or interval pay is no longer payable under any VA education benefit program unless under an Executive Order of the President or due to an emergency situation such as a natural disaster or strike (effective August 1, 2011).
 
What if I am failing or in danger of not passing a course?
Contact the Veterans Affairs office at Clark College as soon as you suspect you may have a problem at 360-992-2112 or 360-992-2711.
