Biological Sciences
About
Biological Sciences is the study of living things and their relation to the environment. Students learn to use the scientific method to examine scientific facts and understand natural processes occurring in the world.
Our program offers an exchange between the support areas of Chemistry, Geology, and Physics to create a well-rounded basis for science-based techniques.

Understanding the Occurences of the Natural World
The world around us holds infinite possibilities for discovery. Biologists cover a range of scientific examination from microorganisms to the complexity of an entire ecosystem.
Clark's Biology department emphasizes small classroom size, individual instruction, and undergraduate research opportunities. The department also provides students with a rare opportunity to learn from hands-on field or lab work that can include examining human cadavers, attempts to discover new antibiotics, desert field trips and searching for native species in the Columbia River Gorge.
Career Opportunities
Employment opportunities for Biologists vary depending on industry and exist in a variety of formats: biological technician, bioinformatics chemist, agricultural technicians, and cellular biologist.
The U.S Department of Labor projects biologist jobs growing at a rate of 5%, with a median wage in the Portland-Vancouver metro area estimated at $34.08 per hour.
Clark's program offers an Associate of Science (AST1) and Associate in Arts Direct Transfer Agreement (AA) options. Our program is designed for students planning to transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a bachelor degree program in biology.
