Concert Band Auditions
Hello,
I am so glad you are looking to play with the Concert Band this coming season. I am
hard at work seeking out new, exciting music for us to explore together. After an
extremely successful year last year, I am hoping to continue building on that.
Woodwind and brass players are not required to audition for Concert Band; it is open to all. However, I highly encourage all flutes, clarinets, trumpets, horns and trombones to audition so that I can get everyone on the correct part. My goal is to seat everyone where both they and the band will have the best experience. For your audition, prepare 1-2 short selections that show off your best playing.
Percussion will be required to audition. On Monday, September 22 I will distribute an audition which will be comprised of a short snare exercise (demonstrating basic roll technique), a 2-mallet exercise for marimba, and a short timpani exercise. These auditions will take place Tuesday-Friday. There will be a sign ups for audition times available at the first rehearsal.
During the first day of classes, September 22, we will meet in the band room and discuss the upcoming year. We will play on that first day, so make sure to bring your instruments!
In Fall Quarter: We meet on Monday and Wednesday from 12:00 - 1:20 pm. Given that, missing even one rehearsal a week is a major thing and costs you 50% of the week’s rehearsal. Please schedule appointments and rides so that you can be at all rehearsals. If we are going to play challenging and rewarding music, we need you there! If you have a class conflict, let me know and we will see what can be worked out.
Enjoy your summer and I will see you on September 22nd.
