Welding Technology–Job Opportunities

Welders are employed in a large variety of industries, ranging from the oil and gas to underwater. Two of three welding and fabricator jobs in the U.S. are found in manufacturing. Potential employers include transportation equipment manufacturing, automobile manufacturing and repair, machinery manufacturing (agriculture, packaging, construction and mining machinery), shipbuilding, piping industry, aircraft and aerospace applications and other manufacturing applications.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has classified welding as a high growth occupation in the future. The average national hourly wage of an entry-level welder is $17, and $35,500 annually. The amount, however, will vary based on region, years of experience and industry where welders may earn in excess of $100,000.
