Diesel Technology involves the diagnoses, modification, and repair of diesel engines for a range of transportation industries.
Clark’s Diesel program prepares students for entry-level positions in the diesel technician trade and has kept with industry changes through new and improved training in basic electronics and electrical systems.
Students learn to work on brake systems, drive trains, electric and electronic circuits, hydraulic systems, and diesel engines, all of which are valuable skills for a successful career.

Dependable Skills Gained by Real-World Instruction
Today's diesel technicians are diverse and flexible with the knowledge to work on a variety of engines and drive train components. Clark College’s diesel technology program offers an intensive hands-on experience where students learn to encounter, troubleshoot, and fix real day-to-day problems on real equipment.
The use of diesel technology has various applications, upon completion of our programs technicians can explore work in a shop or outdoors as field technicians.
Clark also offers evening courses that include Caterpillar, Cummins, and Detroit engines; electronic controls; and industrial hydraulics for technicians who wish to further their knowledge and skills.
Career Opportunities
Employment opportunities for Diesel Technicians exist in a variety of roles: service technician, fleet mechanic, transit mechanic, or diesel mechanic. According to the U.S. Department of Labor employment projections forecast Diesel Technician jobs growing at a rate of 9 percent, with a median wage in the Portland-Vancouver metro area estimated at $24.83 per hour.
