Artwork description:

Originating from the Fereghan and Sarouk regions of western Iran, this circa 1900 carpet reflects a golden age of Persian weaving known for its refined floral motifs and luminous color palette. These rugs were prized in both Iranian and European markets for their exceptional weave density and harmonious design. Today, Fereghan Sarouks are regarded as masterpieces of the late 19th-century Persian workshop tradition, blending artistry with technical perfection.

Acquisition Information:

Gene Seidel, who worked at Crown Zellerbach in Camas for many years, served on the Clark College Foundation Board of Directors. The rugs were made in Persia and were originally in his childhood home.  The donation was made to the college through the Clark College Foundation.
