About the Artist:

Joan Peekema (1933-2008) was a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, where she met her husband, George. Joanne taught primary and secondary school in Camas, WA and Louisiana in the 50s, and later earned a masters degree at Portland State. She taught at the Portland Museum Art School and Pacific NW College of Art for 25 years. She pursued her lifelong interest in two- and three-dimensional art, producing many works of art, many at Clark College.

The Peekema's gifted Clark College $100,000 to establish an endowment that furnishes scholarships for art students. George Peekema said the gift was motivated by his desire to honor his wife and their mutual love for the arts. George and Joan Peekema both took computer classes through the college’s Mature Learning program.
