About the Artist:

Stensrude graduated from Vancouver High School in 1946. After one year he enrolled at Clark College, Vancouver, WA. majoring in Art and went on to Washington State University, majoring in Art Education. In 1950, the start of the Korean War, he joined the US Navy for 4 years. Upon discharge from the US Navy, Stensrude finished his BA in Art Education at the University of Washington. He started teaching at a junior high school in Vancouver, WA, but interrupted that with a brief career as a greeting card writer-illustrator with Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, MO. He returned to teaching after a year at Hallmark and taught at Clark College in various areas of Art and Design for approximately 30 years, earning the Teacher of the Year award in 1984.

Richard Stensrude, is also the designer of the Chime Tower that sits in the center of Clark's main campus.

Artwork Description: 

Primarily red color with geometric shapes at the bottom with one pointed shape curling up to the top through a muted red field of color.

Acquisition Information:

Donation to Clark College by W. Lee Mack. Washington Lee Mack (1919-2011). Lee taught music classes and direct instrumental groups from 1958 until his retirement in 1979.
