Qualities for Success

What qualities are needed to be successful?

People who like surveying also enjoy math - primarily geometry and trigonometry. The field attracts people with geology, forestry, history, engineering, computer science, and astronomy backgrounds, too. Other typical qualities include:

  • Accuracy because surveys must be meticulous and precise.
  • Team work. Often several technicians work together on a given project.
  • Outdoor enjoyment. Computations and reports are done indoors. But the majority of data collection, measurements, layouts and maps are done outdoors throughout the year, in all kinds of terrain and weather.
