VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Clark College nursing department will launch its 50th anniversary celebration by hosting an open house featuring demonstrations of the latest in training technology.

Students, alumni, professional partners and members of the public are invited to attend the event on Feb. 9 from 5-8 p.m. in the nursing skills lab, located on the second floor of Clark College at WSU Vancouver, 14204 NE Salmon Creek Ave., Vancouver. The event is free.  Complimentary parking will be available in green parking lots 1 and 2 and orange parking lot 2.

Clark College is home to one of the largest associate degree nursing programs in the state of Washington.  Approximately 120 nurses graduate from the program each year.

Professor Cindy Myers, director of Clark’s nursing program said, “This year, we are celebrating 50 years of nursing excellence. Our nursing graduates provide quality care in hospitals, clinics, and homes throughout our region.”

Myers added, “Our students learn in state-of-the-art facilities because of generous donor support through the Clark College Foundation.  This celebration is a wonderful opportunity for us to welcome and thank our supporters, our clinical partners, our alumni and the community.”

During the open house, guests will learn how the college has incorporated today’s advanced simulation technology into the curriculum. In simulation technology, students learn basic and complex skills by using wireless, computer-controlled mannequins. Clark’s nursing department is home to “SimMan,” “SimWoman” and “SimBaby.”  The theme of the open house is a “Sim Family” baby shower.

The Clark College nursing program is accredited by the National League of Nursing Accreditation Commission and the state of Washington.  Following a rigorous review process in 2011, the program received top honors: an eight-year reaccreditation.

Future anniversary events will be announced during the open house celebration. Information about Clark’s nursing program is available at www.clark.edu/clarknursing.
