FYE Qualifications and Responsibilities
The FYE Mentor Program is a part of the First Year Experience which started in Fall 2012 at Clark College. Mentoring is a "best practice" in first year experience programs, and research has demonstrated that students who have a mentor persist in college at significantly greater rates than students who do not have a mentor. New students to Clark, "mentees" will be matched with Clark faculty and staff who will serve as volunteer mentors. These mentors will act as a contact person and provide encouragement and support to new students transitioning to Clark College. The mentor will also enhance students' academic success by connecting them with on campus services, resources and activities.Qualifications:
- Be a first year student of Clark College
- Willingness to learn about Clark College and its resources
- Ability to share and learn from the mentoring project experience
Responsibilities:
- Commit to being a mentee for your first quarter at Clark College.
- Submit a mentee application form.
- Attend a mentee orientation session
- Mentees are expected to connect with their mentors (by phone, email or in-person) a minimum of 3 times during the quarter:
- First week of the term
- Midterm
- Before finals week (around week 10)
- Be willing to initiate connections with mentor.
- Be attentive to corresponding and connecting with mentor (e.g. returning voicemails and emails)
- Complete project survey at the end of the quarter.
