Nationally recognized author Robin Romm reads at Clark College
Award-winning memoirist is the centerpiece
of a three-day festival of arts and literature
VANCOUVER, Wash. – Clark College will welcome nationally recognized short-fiction
writer and memoirist Robin Romm during the spring quarter installment of its renowned
Columbia Writers Series.
Romm will read from The Mercy Papers, her brutally honest memoir about her mother’s slow death from breast cancer, from
1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, in Clark’s Penguin Student Lounge, located
in the Penguin Union Building. She will also speak about the craft of writing.

Romm’s reading is part of “Subtext,” a three-day festival of arts and literature
at Clark College. Other events include:
Tuesday, May 14: The unveiling of the 2013 issue of Phoenix, Clark’s journal of arts and literature, followed by a reception for the annual Student
Art Show. The unveiling runs 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Penguin Student Lounge; the art
show runs 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Archer Gallery on the lower level of the Penguin Union
Building.
Friday, May 17: “Clark Crossings,” a reading of works by students and faculty on the theme of “Beauty,”
held 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in PUB 161.

The Columbia Writers Series was launched at Clark College in 1988, bringing local,
national and international authors to the college and the region. Information about

About Robin Romm
Eugenenative Robin Romm is the author of two books, a chapbook, and numerous articles and book reviews. Her
story collection, The Mother Garden, was a finalist for the PEN USA prize. Her memoir, The Mercy Papers, was named a best book of the year by The New York Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, and Entertainment Weekly. Currently she lives in Portland, Oregon, and teaches in the low-residency MFA program
in writing at Warren Wilson College.
