Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Clark College presents the landmark Tony Award winning play,
which is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Broadway premiere this fall

 

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Clark College celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Broadway premiere of Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? by bringing an electric production to the Decker Theatre stage.

The production runs November 2-3, 9-10, and 15-17.  Evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m. with a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. on Nov. 10.  Clark College is located at 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver.  Travel directions, including parking maps, are available at www.clark.edu/maps.

A searing drama with biting humor, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? captures the dynamics of two marriages. George, an associate professor of history, is married to Martha, daughter of the president of the college.  Nick, a newly-arrived biology professor, is married to Honey.  After a party, George and Martha invite Nick and Honey to their home, where drinking and contentious games lead to an evening of devastating truths.

The production is directed by Mark Owsley, who earned praise for his direction of Clark’s productions of Almost Maine and Moon Over Buffalo. The cast includes H. Gene Biby as George, Linda Owsley as Martha, Aron Howell as Nick and Emily Wells as Honey.

Owsley said, “We started rehearsals during the summer in order to have more time to explore the incredible textures and nuance that exist in this play, and on the way, we discovered the funny moments, the tragic moments, and the utter vulnerability of all of these characters. It’s a memorable evening and a great American classic.”
