Cybersecurity: a nation at risk.
What we can do about it.

 On Wednesday, Oct. 17, Clark College Network Technology
Professor Dwight Hughes will be the featured presenter 
as the college launches its 2012-2013 Faculty Speaker Series


Clark College professor Dwight HughesVANCOUVER, Wash. – Is your personal online information safe?  How do businesses protect data in today’s cyber world?  Those critically important questions will be the focus when Clark College launches its 2012-2013 Faculty Speaker Series with a presentation by Network Technology Professor Dwight Hughes. 

Hughes will speak on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 3 p.m. in the Ellis F. Dunn Community Room, located in room 213 in Gaiser Hall on Clark’s main campus.  The event is free and open to the public.

Travel information – including driving directions and parking maps – is available at www.clark.edu/maps.  Clark College is located at 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver.

Hughes will share highlights of his 2012 sabbatical research into cybersecurity. “We all need to understand the depth of this threat and how dangerous and pervasive it has become,” said Hughes.  Hughes will detail “how Clark College is training the future security technicians and experts that will be needed in all industries in the fast, emerging high-growth and high-demand field of cybersecurity.”

The DSS office is located in room 137 in Clark’s Gaiser Hall.

About Professor Dwight Hughes

Specializing in convergent network technologies, Professor Dwight Hughes is the lead teacher for the computer networks and telecommunications systems administration degree and certificate programs at Clark College. He joined the faculty at Clark College in 2003.

Additionally, he has many years of service teaching for several private colleges including Heald College, Everest College, and Warner Pacific College. At Heald College in Portland, he received the Teacher of the Year Award for the 2002-2003 school year.

Hughes holds a Master of Education degree with dual majors in distance education and adult learning as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education.

Additionally, he has several computer networking industry certifications: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Academy Instructor (CCAI), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), CompTIA Linux+, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA A+.

Prior to becoming a teacher, Hughes worked in the computer networking industry, serving in the Information Technology (IT) department at a major university and for a private college. He was involved in bidirectional wireless area network (WAN) and Voice Over IP (VOIP) projects for the city government of Prescott, Ariz. Additionally, he was responsible for corporate sales of network solutions and technologies for a regional Internet Service Provider (ISP).  He has been a leader in wireless WAN technologies.

Hughes continues to be involved actively in the computer networking industry and frequently works for private firms as a consultant and contractor on leading edge technology projects.
