Clark’s new director of nursing is emerging as a national leader

Cynthia Myers, MN, RN has been named
Director of Nursing at Clark College
and selected for a national 
nursing leadership development program

VANCOUVER, Wash. – For Cynthia Myers, MN, RN, Clark College has been the next step for her education and her career. The Clark College graduate has been named the college’s new director of nursing. Myers has also been selected to participate in Lead, the new leadership development program of the National League for Nursing (NLN). 

Clark’s nursing program is recognized statewide for the quality of its instruction and the accomplishments of its graduates.  Its accreditation was recently affirmed by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission, Inc.

Vice President of Instruction Dr. Rassoul Dastmozd said, “I am delighted that professor Myers will be leading our nursing department and our faculty members.  She brings enthusiasm, dedication, and a commitment to teaching and learning excellence and serving the needs of our students.” 

The year-long Lead program is geared toward emerging leaders in nursing education. The initial Lead cohort includes only 30 nurse educators, chosen from colleges and universities throughout the United States.  They will study for a year under the direction of Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN.  Malone is CEO of the National League for Nursing.  

Associate Dean of Health Sciences Jean M. Donovan, PhD, RN, said, “As a recently tenured faculty member, Cindy has proven to be a widely respected, informal leader among the nursing faculty, demonstrating energy and eagerness to learn about and implement new nursing educational concepts and methods. She has also been identified by the administration at Clark College as possessing significant leadership potential.”  Donovan added, “Cindy has exhibited a solid commitment to lifelong learning and to mentoring new full and part-time faculty within the nursing department.”

About Cynthia Myers, MN, RN

Cynthia Myers, MN, RN was appointed to a full-time, tenure-track nursing faculty position, effective September 12, 2007.  She was granted tenure in 2010.

After earning an associate degree in nursing from Clark College, Myers continued her studies at Washington State University (WSU), where she earned a bachelor’s degree, graduating summa cum laude, and a master’s degree in nursing. She has previous work experience with Kaiser Permanente, where she worked as a nurse administrator.  Her career experience also includes clinical responsibilities at Southwest Washington Medical Center, Vancouver Clinic, Olsten Kimberly Quality Care, and Providence Medical Center.

Myers is the first quarter lead instructor in the nursing department and serves on the Clark College Council and on the nursing department’s National League for Nursing (NLN) Standard VI, curriculum, professionalism, and sunshine committees.

A strong proponent of collaborative learning, Myers believes in empowering students to take new information and integrate it with what they already know. She said, “Engaging students in the classroom, intellectually and with one another, leads to better understanding of the course material and builds a social community of learners. As an educator it’s very exciting to be a part of this dynamic process.”
