Clark College Honors December's Student Athletes of the Month
Student athletes Travis Garrison and Renee Tzeo
are honored for their leadership on Clark’s athletic teams
VANCOUVER, Wash. – Student athletes competing in men’s and women’s basketball have
been honored as the December 2009 "Athletes of the Month" at Clark College.
Travis Garrison is a 6’5” forward on Clark’s basketball team. A graduate of Evergreen High School, Garrison is described by coach Mike Arnold as showing “great leadership and commitment to his teammates, the program, and his own development for the past couple of years. “
Arnold said Garrison’s contributions “cannot be only measured by statistics. Often guarding the opponent’s biggest player and giving up inches and pounds, Travis has shown to be a very strong defender.” Arnolds adds that, with a 3.31 grade point average (GPA), Travis Garrison “is a leader in the classroom as well.”
Freshman basketball player Renee Tzeo came to Clark from Reynolds High School in Troutdale.
Coach Nancy Boone says Tzeo “demonstrates a strong sense of leadership.” Boone adds
that Tzeo, who has a 3.55 GPA, “has a high basketball IQ, which she gained from playing
on a very strong summer league team.”
The Student Athlete of the Month program recognizes both the academic and athletic achievements of Clark's student athletes. Two recipients are selected each month by a committee that includes Clark College coaches, athletic department personnel, and fellow students.
Each honoree receives a jacket with his or her name embroidered on it. The jackets are provided by Les Schwab through its support of the Student of the Month program, in partnership with Clark’s Penguin Athletic Club and the Clark College Foundation.
